  • Firestarters...stocked for years

Every couple years we make firestarters. We collect the cardboard egg crates and old candles for years. We then decide when we need to make new ones.

Last season we ran out of the ones we made 5 years ago...so it was time to do it again...

    Needed:
    • Old Candles (Hit up everyone you know, used one's, new ones that they don't like...it doesn't matter)
    • Egg Crates (Get in the habit of just buying the cardboard ones)
    • Paper from a shredder
    • Saw dust or chips from a chainsaw
    • A pot to melt the wax (don't use your good ones)
    • Another pot to use as a double boiler
    • Lots of paper to cover everything.

    What to do:
    • Fill the main pot with water and get it boiling
    • Cut up the candles into small pieces...the smaller the better
    • Place the other pot in it and add the candles
    • Stir until melted.
    • In the mean time, add saw dust, shredded paper, etc to the crates
    • When the wax is melted, slowly pour it in the crates to fill them up.
    • Let them cool

Usually just one. Unless you have stubborn wood.
