  • Is this a Slayer that I see???

Well, I had to take the plunge.

Was so close to buying a Slash but was not impressed with the 2wd aspect of it.

When I saw that the slayer was based off the Revo chassis...I just had to have it...there is no better suspension geometry out there...

Under the hood is a beautiful thing...yes a 3.3 Nitro Motor on this thing...

          Now for the build...

Doing some research on rc-monster.com and it came down to two options with this conversion; 1 Build it from scratch like I did my savage or 2 find a conversion kit to help with some of the modifying.

Going with number 1 on my Savage created a lot of headaches, wasted funds and foolish purchases. I opted for number 2.

Now came the research time...I found out that the Slayer Chassis is the Revo Platinum Chassis so any of the Revo conversions should work.

I opt'd for Tekno due to the known quality and the use of the clutch bell set up. Plus a cool t-shirt

This kit includes a 5mm flywheel/clutchbell adapter; adjustable motor mount; battery tray; radio box; ESC mount and detailed instructions.

So to start you need to remove all the Nitro stuff from the the chassis which includes:
Fuel Tank, Tubing and Mounting Post
          EZ Start and Wires
          Exhaust Pipe and Hanger
          Engine and Mount
          Left Radio Box
          Throttle Linkage and Return Spring
          Receiver, Switch, Receiver Battery
          Right Radio Box

Re: Is this a Slayer that I see???

Now you need to remove the flywheel off the engine.

The kit comes with an adapter that puts the whole clutch assembly onto a 5mm shaft of a BL Motor...

You can then assemble the motor mount. This thing lays right in where the Nitro Engine mount set. It also gives you full adjustability for most popular BL Motors up to the length of and XL (what I am using)

It also gives you full adjustability for perfect mesh setting

Once you have that set...you are home free
            Install the ESC Mount

Install the battery Tray and straps

You are pretty much done with the conversion...

Re: Is this a Slayer that I see???

              Now comes the electronics...
When you are running a nitro tranny you must use the mechanical brake and disable the ESC brake. Wiring is easy by using a "Y" Connector where the ESC and Brake Servo go in the two sides and you plug it into the Receiver Throttle Slot.

So I had this small ESC laying around so I figured I would use it on this project...

It is a little thing called a Mamba Monster Maxx (MMM)...check out these specs:

The only way to appreciate the size is to compare it. The first pic is the motor wire next to a servo wire. The second is a stock bullet plug and the one's that come with the MMM. These things are huge!!!!

It comes with a built in fan that when it is spooling up sounds like a turbine...

So she is all ready to go...just waiting on a 5s LiPo to get this puppy going...

Here is the combo that I am leaning to...Anything more than that will be uncontrollable with this rig...

The key to remember versus Nitro is that with BL it is instant speed...

Cannot wait to see this thing run...I am figuring to keep it in the 55 - 65 mph range...anything more than that would be uncontrollable. The combo of gearing and lipo should have me on the low end of that range.

Locking the tranny in 2nd gear will help with the control also.

Working with RC4WD for a more scale CORR Tire (BFG MT's)
